Halifax Tour with Jimmy Heighton

Activity Level 1

Port: Halifax, Nova Scotia

Approx. Duration: 8 hours

Adult Pricing: $0 USD

We met Jimmy Heighton on our Australian cruise and he lives in Halifax. He offered to take us around when we reached port. When we arrived Jimmy walked over from his apartment that's just a couple of blocks away overlooking Halifax harbor and very close to the cruise terminal. We walked back to his apartment for a cup of coffee before starting out on our sightseeing trip.

We jumped into his car and the first stop was a drive by of the Citidel, built by the British to defend against the French but apparently never had to be used. We continued on and the next stop was a cemetary - the cemetary where the remains of the passengers lost in the Titanic disaster are buried. Very interesting. Then we drove to Peggy's Cove, a quaint little fishing village with a picturesque lighthouse and little shops for the tourists. On the way we stopped at a memorial for a Swiss Air flight that crashed off the coast of Peggy's Cove. We had lunch at Peggy's Cove and drove back into Halifax to see a couple of parks and some beautiful neighborhoods in the city. He dropped us off at the cruise terminal and that completed our tour. Many thanks to Jim for taking the time and showing us the sights of Halifax/Nova Scotia.
